High school senior Amanda Detmer posted a 4-under-par 68 at
Hillview CC today during her first ever Indiana PGA Women’s Open. Detmer holds a slim two shot lead over Fort
Wayne’s Ashley Kees heading into the final round tomorrow.
“I made a lot of birdie putts today,” said Detmer of
Madison. “This is my first Indiana Women’s
event and it feels good to be in the lead heading into tomorrow.”
Detmer carded six birdies today at Hillview, coming on the
par-4, 4th, the par-4, 5th, the par-3, 6th,
the par-5, 7th, and the par-4, 9th for an impressive
front nine of 4-under-par, 32. She also
carded a birdie on her last hole of the day, the par-5, 18th after hitting her approach
shot to 4 inches.
“I hope to continue to make birdie putts tomorrow,” Detmer
said. “The field has a lot of good college players and college graduates. If I was able to win this event, it would
mean I can compete on their level and that would be a great feeling.
Kees, who sits alone in second fired a 2-under-par 70 this
afternoon, with the help of a hole-in-one on the 155 yard par-3, 8th.
“I had been hitting my irons really solid all day,” said
Kees, a soon-to-be red shirt senior at the University of Memphis. “I hoped to hit it close on 8 and give myself
a chance for birdie, and the hole-in-one was definitely a nice surprise.
Unlike Detmer, Kees has been playing in women’s events for
years, and looks for her first win tomorrow.
“I have seen so many good players win this event in the past
and it would really mean a lot to me to win,” Kees said. “This is a great field and I am excited to be
in this position.
Brooke Beegle of Fishers and Kayla Katterhenry of Newburgh
are currently tied for third at 1-under-par.
