Momentum in Full Swing: Indiana Golf Celebrates a Landmark May and Gears Up for a Packed June
May was nothing short of inspiring for Indiana Golf. From championship comebacks and national qualifiers to fundraising and statewide celebrations of community, the month was filled with moments that reminded us of the power of the game — and the people who make it so special.
As we look ahead to a busy June, here’s a look back at the highlights from an unforgettable month on and off the course.
Matt Vogt Makes History at the Indianapolis Open
The month teed off with one of the IGA’s premier events — the Indianapolis Open, held May 12–13 at The Fort Golf Course. After a strong opening round left him two shots off the lead, defending champion Matt Vogt battled through high winds and two separate rain delays to climb to the top of the leaderboard.
Vogt’s steady play paid off, and a birdie in the final stretch secured the win — his second consecutive Indianapolis Open title, making him the event’s first back-to-back champion.
“I just tried to stay really steady and stick to a conservative game plan,” said Vogt. “There are places on a Dye course where you can get in trouble if you force it. I hit a lot of two irons — even an eight iron off the tee on ten. I like the strategy of it — and it worked out.” – Matt Vogt
Adaptive Golf Shines in the Spotlight
May 16–17 marked the fourth annual Indiana Adaptive Open Championship, hosted at Golf Club of Indiana. With participants traveling in from across the country, the event continues to grow as a welcoming showcase for athletes of all abilities.
This year’s champions included:
-

That same week, on May 19, Broadmoor Country Club hosted a USGA Adaptive Qualifier, where two national competitors punched their ticket to the national stage in Indianapolis. Ricky Reilly earned his spot in dramatic fashion, winning a sudden-death playoff on Broadmoor’s 18th hole, while Sophia Howard also qualified after a strong performance.
“I came down here in hopes to, you know, give it my best. At the end of the day, it’s, a game, and I’m looking to kind of grow, as a player, [and to] grow as a person. Meeting all these wonderful people is something you just can’t put a price on and to get this feeling of winning… I just can’t even put a word to it… it’s unbelievable.” -Ricky Reilly
These events reflect Indiana Golf’s growing commitment to adaptive golf, offering competitive pathways and a supportive community for all who love the game.
PGA Pros for Kids Raises Over $80,000
Also on May 19, Anderson Country Club played host to the PGA Pros for Kids charity outing, where professionals from across the state came together to raise funds for First Tee – Indiana, the Brittany Kelly Memorial Fund, and charities of their choice. Thanks to generous sponsors, players, and donors, the event raised over $80,000 — supporting the next generation of golfers and honoring the legacy of those who continue to make a difference in the game.
Celebrating Coaches During First Tee Week
From May 19–25, Indiana Golf and First Tee – Indiana celebrated First Tee Week, a nationwide campaign to honor and recognize the coaches who shape lives beyond the scorecard. Across all First Tee – Indiana chapters, coaches were celebrated for their leadership, mentorship, and dedication to growing character in young golfers. Their efforts continue to serve as the heart of our mission, helping kids build confidence both on and off the course.
What’s Ahead in June
May’s momentum carries right into a jam-packed June, starting with the PGA Senior Open on June 2–3 and followed closely by:

Also happening this week is a long-anticipated milestone: the Grand Opening of the Pete and Alice Dye Indiana Golf Center, Indiana Golf’s new home.
