Low scores were hard to come by today at Rock Hollow GC due
to windy conditions and cool temperatures.
Brett Melton, however, did not seem to be affected by the weather this
afternoon, posting the only under par round of the tournament. Melton fired a 3-under-par, 69 for his second
Indiana PGA Tournament Series event win this season.

“I had an interesting
start to my day,” said Melton of the Country Club of Old Vincennes. “I blocked my drive to the right and ended up
in the woods. I managed to find my ball
but I didn’t have much of a swing. I hit
a punch eight iron to get within fifty yards of the green, but then hit my
wedge shot long. I chipped in for par
and walked on wondering what kind of day this was going to be.”

Melton carded five birdies today on the par-5, 3rd,
the par-5, 6th, the par-4, 9th, the par-4, 13th,
and the par-5, 15th.

“When it’s windy like this you have to hit it pretty solid,”
Melton said. “The wind knocked down a
few shots today, but I just did my best not to get frustrated and I saved pars
when I needed to.”

Melton won the first Tournament Series event of the season
at Prairie View GC in May. He is
currently on track to becoming the Indiana PGA Player of the Year for the
second year in a row, as he leads the points list.

“I’m always happy to get a win,” Melton said. “My goal is to be the Player of the Year and
this helps me get one step closer. I’m
really looking forward to the PNC at Prairie View, which is where I won the
State Open. This win gives me confidence
heading into that event.”

Bill Schumaker of Crooked Lake took the Senior Division
title with an even-par 72.
