Melton Repeats at Southern Open

May 11, 2015

Inclement weather caused two rain delays today at the Indiana PGA Southern Open at Harrison Lake CC.  However, rain did not stand in the way of Defending Champion Brett Melton, CC of Old Vincennes, who posted a 2-under-par, 70 today for a one shot victory.

“I didn’t touch a club in February and March so I was really pleased to be able to strike the ball like I did today,” Melton said.  “This is a great way to start off the season.”

For the majority of the day, 71 was the number to beat, with five players tied at the top of the leaderboard.  Melton’s birdies on holes 4, 13, 15 and 16 solidified his win today, only carding two bogeys.

“I played in the Web.com Qualifier and shot 4-over and last week posted 2-over at the Ulen Open, so it feels good that things are starting to click,” Melton said.  “I feel confident heading into the rest of the season.  Things are slowly getting into gear.”

Melton is a four-time Indiana PGA Player of the Year, and puts himself in a solid position for the 2015 title.

Chad Ayres, Hillcrest G & CC, Jon Balyeat, Sycamore Hills GC, Aaron Harrell, Otis Park GC, Adam Marshall, Orleans, and Clint Wallman, Indiana University, finished in a five-way tie for second at 1-under-par.
