McCall Wins First Ever Super Senior Match Play Championship

Aug 29, 2014

Indianapolis’ Greg McCall started off the week as medalist,
firing a 1-under-par, 71 and wrapped up the week with a victory in the final
match. McCall defeated George Wamsley of
Monterey 3 & 2 to win the first ever IGA Super Senior Match Play
Championship.

Wamsley made an early birdie, on the par-5, 2nd
to go 1-up in the match, but McCall answered with a birdie on the par-4, 3rd. McCall went on to birdie the par-4, 5th
and from that point forward never relinquished his lead.

“All I wanted to do today was make some good swings and not
make any bad mistakes,” McCall said. “I
was able to swing within myself and trust it.
I am really happy with how I played this week.”

Headed to the par-4, 13th McCall had a five shot
lead. After an errant tee shot into the
left water hazard, Wamsley saw an opening and capitalized. With a win on 13 and a win on 15, Wamsley got
the match to within three. McCall and
Wamsley went on to share bogeys on the par-4, 16th giving McCall a 3
& 2 victory.

“I am very excited to have won this event,” McCall
said. “This is the best thing I have
ever done in golf.”
