Maurer Leads After Marathon Round Two

Jul 13, 2017

Just over 57 hours after it started, the second round of the 102nd Indiana Open finally finished at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Severe weather plagued the event for the past few days creating disjointed rounds and a sometimes impassable golf course.

At Kampen GC for round two, play started on Tuesday morning with Michael VanDeventer, Jake Brown and Brian Maurer tied for the lead. The round was started and cancelled on both Tuesday and Wednesday with half of the players able to finish early Wednesday afternoon, including Maurer who fired a 36-hole total of 8-under-par. Jumping into the mix as well was Michael Davan, who fired a second round 6-under-par 66 to get to second place at 4-under for the tournament.

Thursday evening finally brought conclusion to the second round with the 2010 Indiana Open Champion Maurer still holding a four-shot advantage over Davan. VanDeventer and 2014 winner Craig Bowden stand a shot back of Davan at 3-under along with four others at 2-under.

Due to the weather and golf course complications the championship has been shortened to a 54-hole event that will finish on Friday, a day later than scheduled. The final 18-holes will be back on the Ackerman-Allen GC, which was the sight of the opening round.
