LAWRENCE, IN (August 14) – At Old Oakland Golf Club, Cameron Luczka emerged victorious in the 2024 Fortune’s Fool IGA Mid-Amateur Championship after a thrilling four-hole playoff against Kenny Cook of Noblesville. Luczka’s rounds of 67-69 (-8) were highlighted by an eagle on the 16th hole and a crucial birdie on 18 to force the playoff.

Reflecting on the intense finish, Luczka shared his thoughts: “I feel great. Our whole group played well, and anytime we play good golf, it’s always fun.”

Throughout the final round, Luczka kept his composure by giving himself plenty of opportunities, even though he missed several birdie putts. “I didn’t make many birdies, but I was able to finish strong with that eagle and birdie coming in,” he noted.

That birdie coming in, is what forced the playoff between Luczka and Cook. The playoff began with both players matching pars on the first hole, setting the stage for a showdown. The tension continued to build as they again both secured pars on the second hole, thanks to short putts that kept the match alive. On the third playoff hole, Cook missed a critical birdie putt, and Luczka demonstrated nerves of steel by saving par with an up and down from behind the green, forcing the playoff into a decisive fourth hole.

On the final playoff hole, the pressure mounted as Cook missed a short putt, leaving the door open for Luczka. With composure and precision, Luczka sank his putt, claiming the championship and capping off an unforgettable tournament.

In a post-round interview, Luczka reflected on the playoff and his overall performance. “Kenny was great out there. I missed a lot of birdie putts and had a couple of bad wedges, but making that 20-footer for par on the last was something special,” he said.

Luczka’s victory not only showcases his resilience under pressure but also highlights the competitive spirit of the crowd favorite, IGA Mid-Amateur Championship.
