Bill Kratzert Jr., a former longtime head professional at the Fort Wayne Country Club and central figure in the local golf scene, died Sunday afternoon.

Among his accomplishments, the PGA veteran was in charge of hosting the annual Mad
Anthonys Charity Classic and received a Gold Medal of Appreciation from the Western Golf
Association.

“He always ran a very, very class operation,” said Terry Kitch, who was a member of the Fort Wayne
Country Club when Kratzert arrived there in 1959. “He was not only a good golfer. He was a wonderful
administrator. He was very competent in what he did.”

In the 1990s, at the 36-year-mark of his time at the Fort Wayne Country Club, Kratzert was honored
by the Fort Wayne Sports Corp. and, in 1971, was chosen as Golf Professional of the Year by the
Indiana Golf Office.
