Long-time Indiana PGA Professional, George L. Thomas Passes Away

Indiana PGA Professional and Hall of Fame member, George L. Thomas died on Saturday, December 1, from natural causes. He was 87.

Born in Michigan City and later a resident of Elkhart, Ind., Thomas worked as a PGA Professional for 47 years, including 28 at Elcona Country Club. Thomas also was the Head Coach of the men’s golf team at Notre Dame University for 13 years and served as President of the Indiana PGA.

He dedicated his life to the game of golf and accomplished a great deal. Thomas was a three-time Indiana PGA Player of the Year, won seven Indiana Senior Championships, and was named the Indiana Section Teacher of the year in 1990.

Our condolences go out to George’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

There will be a visitation for George on Monday, December 3, from 3-6 pm at the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home in Elkhart, IN and a private family ceremony will be held at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
