Ingram Grabs One Seed at Women’s Match Play

Jun 1, 2015

Richmond’s Erin Ingram posted a tremendous 5-under-par, 65 today during the qualifying portion of the IWGA Match Play Championship at Highland G & CC.  Wet and chilly conditions made the course more difficult today, but Ingram did not let the weather affect her.  She gained the number one seed heading into the match play portion of competition and will face her cousin Ashtyn Brown, also of Richmond, during the opening round of 16.

“Today was honestly pretty up-and-down,” Ingram said.  “I only hit eight greens in regulation, so I was forced to get up-and-down the majority of the day.  My putter really saved me and I made a lot of three and four footers which kept my momentum going.”

The rising junior at IUPUI carded six birdies today.  Her lone bogey of the day came on the par-5, 3rd.

“I’m excited to be in this position,” Ingram said.  “Match play is completely different because anything can happen so you have to have a different mentality and take things one hole at a time.”

Alexis Miestowski posted a 2-over-par, 72 to claim the number two seed heading to the match play portion of competition.  She will play the number 15 seed, Michelle Morgan of Fishers.
