Indiana Golfers Dominate at US Mid-Am Qualifier

Four out of five qualifiers for the US Mid-Amateur Championship are residents of Indiana.  Craig Smith of Springfield, TN and Justin Wenger of Indianapolis tied for first at qualifier held at Crooked Stick GC on September 10.  Both players fired 1-under-par 71s. 
 
Coming in a close second was Fisher’s Preston Smith who finished at even par.  Indianapolis’ Mike Bell, a past US Senior Amateur Champion, also qualified at Crooked Stick with a 1-over-par 73. 
 
Bobby Delagrange of Westfield, who fired a 2-over-par 74 grabbed the last spot after beating Chris Eckerle of Indianapolis and Tim Cobb of Fishers in a six hole playoff. 
 
Eckerle and Cobb became the first and second alternates.
 
The 2013 US Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala. October 5-10, 2013.
