Hunter and Humphrey Lead Pack at Mid Am Team Championship

Apr 21, 2013

Cold weather and windy conditions did not get in the way of duo Ben Hunter and Mark Humphrey today at the IGA Mid Am Team Championship held at Brickyard Crossing GC. Their 5-under-par 67 in the alternate shot portion of competition was enough for them to take the lead heading into tomorrow.

“We just didn’t make many mistakes today,” said Hunter, from Fishers, Ind. “We were able to scramble well and we got up-and-down five out of five times for par which really saved us.”

The pair made five birdies, coming on holes 1, 5, 12, 14, and 17 as well as 13 solid pars.

“When one of us hit a bad shot the other came back with a really good shot,” said Humphrey, an Indianapolis resident. “Ben is also one of the best putters I know so that definitely helped us out a lot.”

This is the second time Hunter and Humphrey have participated in this event as a team.

“Mark and I were talking on the way home and neither of us have ever been in contention for an IGA event before,” Hunter said. “We hope to go out there tomorrow and make as few mistakes as we did today. It would really be awesome to win.”

Kenny Cook and Joe Mahurin are currently in tie for second place along with Sean Rowen and Bobby Delagrange after firing team totals of 4-under-par 68.
