Due to inclement weather, Tuesday’s round of the 100th Indiana Open Championship was postponed until today. Players who teed off yesterday morning completed their rounds at 8:00 a.m. this morning, followed by yesterday’s afternoon wave that began their rounds at 9:00 a.m. The Brickyard Crossing Staff did an excellent job of getting the course in shape for today, despite wet conditions.
Weather did not seem to affect 18 year-old Timothy Hildebrand, who claims the damp course helped balls stop more quickly.
“I honestly think the conditions were a little bit easier this morning than they were yesterday,” said Hildebrand, a member of the 2015 IHSAA State Championship team. “The balls weren’t rolling through the fairways and they were holding on the greens.”
Hildebrand completed his last eight holes at 2-under-par for a round two total of 4-under-par, 68. He added this to his 67 yesterday to grab a three shot lead heading to tomorrow’s 36-hole finale.
“I came into this event with the goal of posting two rounds under par,” Hildebrand said. “Now that I have achieved my goal, I am hoping to be in contention come tomorrow afternoon.”
Hildebrand will attend Purdue University this fall and join the Men’s Golf Team. He looks for his first Indiana Golf win this week at Brickyard.
“Playing with Indiana’s best amateur and professional players is honestly humbling,” Hildebrand said. “They are so experienced and I have really learned a lot from them this week. If I were able to win this event, it would mean so much to me. At this point, my goal is to post a solid round tomorrow morning.”
Adam Schenk, a player on the PGA Tour Latin America, posted a 2-under-par, 70 today and is currently in second at 6-under-par.
“I got off to a good start today making birdie on my first two holes,” Schenk said. “I’ve never won an event coming from behind, but I feel good heading into tomorrow. I’m going to work on my putting a little bit tonight and see if I can get the ball started where I want it to.”
Eric Steger, a professional from Fishers, posted a 36-hole total of 5-under-par, 139 and is third.
After today, the field was cut to the low 70 players, including ties at 7-over-par, 151.
The 100th Indiana Open Championship will conclude with a 36-hole finale tomorrow with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m.
