After 36-holes, Tucker Guisewite of The Woodstock Club is the current leader at the Indiana PGA Assistant Professional Championship at The Hawthorns GCC. Guisewite posted a total of 6-under-par, 138 today and leads by four shots over Assistant Professional at The Hawthorns, Brittany Kelly.
“Coming into this season, my goal was to win this event,” Guisewite said. “I’ve been playing well this season and have figured out how to balance life in the business, while still keeping my game sharp. The members like to have a good Assistant, so that constantly motivates me to be better.”
Guisewite has had a solid tournament season, with five top-ten finishes to date. He looks for his first Indiana Golf win tomorrow.
“I handle pressure well,” Guisewite said. “College golf prepared me for moments like this. I plan to stay patient and hopefully bring the trophy to The Woodstock Club.”
Brittany Kelly, who trails by four looks to qualify for her first PGA Assistant Professional Championship, after missing the opportunity by two shots at last year’s event.
“It would be awesome if I were able to make it this year,” Kelly said. “I’m still sitting on the feeling of just missing it last year, so I plan to put the pedal to the medal and finish the tournament strong.”
Kelly has the home course advantage on her side and says knowing the greens is key.
“The greens can be tough to read, so knowing the breaks works in my favor,” Kelly said. “I hope to continue to give myself opportunities to make birdies tomorrow, and hopefully the putts will fall.”
Matthew Smith of The Players Club is currently third at even-par.
Three players will qualify for the PGA Assistant Professional Championship, which takes place October 27-30 at the Wanamaker Course, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
