Guisewite Coasts to Victory

Aug 2, 2016

Heading into the final round of the Indiana PGA Assistant Professional Championship, Tucker Guisewite, The Woodstock Club, had a commanding four shot lead. As the day progressed, Guisewite remained steady, posting a 54-hole-total of 6-under-par, 210. He won the event by seven shots, claiming his first ever Indiana Golf victory.

“I hit the ball really well off the tee today, and that’s what you have to do out here,” Guisewite said.  “It also really helped having my teammate Graham (McAree), who is a member at The Hawthorns, on the bag today.  Local knowledge is very important on a course like this.”

Guisewite’s goal heading into the 2016 tournament season was to win this event and bring back the trophy to The Woodstock Club.

“This was my first time playing in this event, and my members were very supportive,” Guisewite said.  “I am really happy I was able to bring this win to our club.  It feels awesome!”

Unfortunately, Guisewite did not sign up for the qualifying portion of competition and therefore is not eligible to compete in the National event, the PGA Assistant Professional Championship.

“I am a little disappointed that I didn’t sign up, but I am excited with the outcome and happy to earn more Assistant Player of the Year points,” Guisewite said.

Three players did advance to the PGA Assistant Professional Championship, which will take place October 27-30 at the Wanamaker Course, Port St. Lucie, Fla. Those players include John DalCorobbo, Brickyard Crossing GC, Michael Asbell, Woodland CC, and Brittany Kelly, The Hawthorns GCC.

DalCorobbo finished runner-up today, posting a 54-hole total of 1-over-par, 217.  This is his first time qualifying for the PGA Assistant Professional Championship through an Indiana qualifier.  He adds the national event to his schedule, to make for an even better tournament season.

“It’ll be great to play a tournament round before the senior qualifier and the Champions Tour School Finals,” DalCorobbo said.  “I played well this week and this is a good finish for me.”

Asbell finished in a tie for third at 3-over-par, 221.  This is his third time qualifying for the PGA Assistant Professional Championship.

“It means a lot to make it back to Florida this year,” Asbell said.  “Last year I missed a three-footer to miss out on the opportunity, so I am excited I was able to qualify this year.”

Kelly also finished the event at 3-over-par and will advance to her first ever PGA Assistant Professional Championship.

“Qualifying for this event, I feel like I am finally able to say that I have made a name for myself as a female golfer in Indiana,” Kelly said.  “I’m excited to head to Florida and play against the boys.”

Three players qualified for alternate spots in the following order: Matthew Smith, The Players Club, Jeff Marsh, Brookwood GC, and Jon Balyeat, Sycamore Hills GC.
