MONTICELLO, IN (June 24) – The PGA Monticello Open, held at Tippecanoe Country Club on June 24, showcased strong competition among top golfers. Open to Indiana Section PGA Members, Approved Player Associates, and Amateurs registered in the Indiana Handicap System with a handicap index of 6.4 or less, the tournament drew a strong field of competitors.

Adam Gruenig emerged victorious, shooting a remarkable 67 (-5) to secure the win. His impressive performance stood out on

a day where consistency and precision were key. Gruenig’s victory was closely contested, with a three-way tie for second place between Eric Steger, Matt Vogt, and Terry Werner, all shooting 68 (-4).

In his post-round interview, Gruenig expressed his elation with his performance.

“I feel amazing. Good day to play golf and hit the ball really well. Did pretty much everything really well,” he shared.

His strategy centered around avoiding significant mistakes and maintaining focus, a plan that paid off handsomely.

“I just missed it in the right spot on every hole,” Gruenig said, emphasizing the importance of course management in his success.

Gruenig’s only blemish came with a bogey on the 16th hole, which he attributed to a rare misstep. “The one mess up, where I missed it in the wrong spot,” he noted. Despite this, he remained composed and strategic, barely keeping an eye on the scoreboard throughout play.

“I only checked it on nine and 17,” Gruenig admitted, underscoring the competitive tension of the day.

Halfway through the round, Gruenig was not in the lead, prompting him to adjust his approach.

“Just make two or three birdies down, coming in and then hopefully that’s good enough, and it turned out to be,” he explained. His calculated aggression on the back nine ultimately secured his victory.

Gruenig’s well-rounded game and mental fortitude were on full display, leading to a memorable win at Tippecanoe Country Club. As he looks ahead to the season, Gruenig is focused on upcoming events, including the Indiana Open qualifying.

“Hoping to qualify here [Tippecanoe Country Club] tomorrow [June 25] for the Indiana Open,” he mentioned, indicating his continued drive for success.

The PGA Monticello Open highlighted the competitive spirit and skill of its participants, with Gruenig’s victory serving as a testament to his exceptional play. The tournament not only provided a platform for seasoned professionals but also showcased the depth of talent within the Indiana golfing community.
