Griffing To Make 4th Straight Appearance at National Senior Championship

Aug 26, 2011

For the second time since he became eligible for the Indiana Senior Professional Championship in 2008, Quinn Griffing of The Donald Ross Course in Fort Wayne has claimed victory. His win this year at Delaware CC also qualified him for his fourth straight National Senior Professional Championship to be held October 6-9, 2011, at Creighton Farms in Aldie, Virginia,
and River Creek Club in Leesburg, Virginia.

“I hit the ball better today than I did yesterday,” said Griffing, who fired 66 in the final round, one shot better than the first day. He stuck approaches close and putted well to difficult hole locations. At the 16th, he rolled in a 25-foot putt for birdie to advance his lead to three with only two holes to play. That birdie followed a chip-in eagle at the 11th when he took the tournament lead over from Schumaker.

For Griffing, the most exciting part about qualifying with 263 other Professionals from around the country is the opportunity to qualify for the PGA Tour events. The top 5 finishers in the 2011 Southworth Senior PGA Professional National presented by Mercedes-Benz will be exempted into the Champions Tour National Finals at TPC
Scottsdale (Champions), Scottsdale, Arizona, on November 13-18, 2011, and the top 35 finishers will qualify for the 2012 Senior PGA Championship presented by
KitchenAid to be played at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores, Benton Harbor, Michigan, during the
week of May 24-27, 2012.

The other three seniors from Indiana who will join Griffing in the quest to play in these prestigious tour events are Bill Schumaker (65-71=136), David Carich (70-68=138), and Dean Prange (74-68=142).
