Fellow PGA TOUR Latinoamerica competitors, Michael Davan and Seth Fair will face off during tomorrow’s final round of the 104th Indiana Open Championship at Otter Creek Golf Course after posting impressive rounds of 63 and 66 today. Davan, Zionsville, leads by two shots at 10-under-par, and Fair, Brownsburg, trails at 8-under-par.
“We’re good friends,” said Fair. “We’ve played a ton of golf together. We’ve traveled together. Tomorrow will be fun.”
Davan’s nearly flawless round consisted of 10 birdies and a lone bogey on the par-4, 12th.
“I hit the ball really well the last couple of days and today I got some putts to fall,” Davan said. “After the rain delay, I was really able to get my speed dialed in.”
A brief weather delay set play back for about one hour, but Davan and Fair used it to their advantage.
“The wind really died down after the rain and the greens softened up,” said Fair. “I was able to give myself a lot of chances today.”
Davan and Fair are not strangers to this event. In 2013, Fair grabbed his first Indiana Open Championship title, with a win at The Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.
“People always ask me why I still live in Indiana,” Fair said. “And it’s because I love it here. I love playing in this tournament with my friends and family watching, and competing against people I know. Tomorrow will be competitive – and we both want to win. But it will also be comfortable.”
Davan has also seen the Open title within his reach, finishing runner-up in 2017 at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course and 11th last year.
“It would mean a lot to me to win this event,” said Davan. “There is so much history with this tournament and at this course. I’ve played a lot of golf with players who have won State Opens and Amateurs here at Otter Creek. It would be special to get a win here myself.”
Tyler Gray will join Davan and Fair in the final pairing tomorrow. Gray, Huntingburg, carded a 36-hole total of 7-under-par, 137 and trails Davan by three shots.
“I was making putts and taking advantage when I hit a good tee shot today,” Gray said. “I also remained patient.”
After today’s round, the field was cut to the low 70 players including ties at 7-over-par, 151.
Tee times will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
