Evansville’s Chanice Young was one of four players from the
University of Indianapolis to win her opening match at the IWGA Match Play Championship
at Heartland Crossing Golf Links.

“I only hit five greens today, but I got up-and-down a lot
and that saved me,” Young said. “This is
our home course and it definitely helps to know where the good places to miss
are. It’s also nice to know the greens
because it helps with reading putts.”

Indianapolis’ Zoey Freese, Martinsville’s Jaclyn Schindler,
and soon-to-be freshman Paxton DeHaven of Seymour also advanced to the elite
eight.

Medalist Julia Potter also qualified for the top eight spots
by default this afternoon, after a sudden withdraw by opponent Mary Ellen
Romero.

“I wish I had gotten the chance to play today,” Potter
said. “Another chance to see the course
always gives you a little bit more confidence for your next round. I hope to carry over my momentum from day one
tomorrow.”

Defending Champion Brooke Beegle of Fishers, Plainfield’s
Breanna Patz, and Kendallville’s Katie Sharp also advanced to the elite eight.

Matches will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
