A cold, blustery morning gave way to afternoon sunshine at Bloomington Country Club on Monday, but no one in the field could catch Old Oakland’s Vince Drahman, who set the pace early and never looked back, capturing the 2025 PGA Southern Open title with a steady, composed round.
Drahman, who teed off in the morning wave, handled the sloping greens and swirling winds with precision and patience. His disciplined approach paid off, particularly on the front nine, where he consistently kept the ball below the hole and avoided costly mistakes. The highlight of his round came on the par-3 16th, where he holed out for an unexpected but well-earned eagle.
“I’ve been working hard trying to get ready for the national club pro,” said Drahman. “The weather hasn’t been great recently, but I made myself get out there and play. I just tried to stick to my process, take it one shot at a time, and add it up at the end. It turned out to be a pretty good round.”
Despite valiant efforts from the afternoon field, no one could eclipse Drahman’s mark. Eric Steger made a strong push, but a series of three-putts on the back nine halted his momentum.
“Everything was pretty solid today,” Drahman added. “I felt like I could control the ball well, and that’s what you need out here. That shot on 16 going in was just a nice little bonus at the end.”
2024 Indiana Open Champion Michael Davan was this event’s runner-up, trailing two strokes behind Drahman.
The early season test at Bloomington Country Club proved to be a challenging but fair examination for the field, with gusty winds and temperature swings adding to the difficulty. Drahman’s composed performance stood out, not only for his score but for the consistency and control he demonstrated from start to finish.
