After nearly two inches of rainfall last night in Monticello, Ind. play was delayed two hours for this morning’s opening round of the Indiana PGA Senior Open at Tippecanoe CC. Wet and windy conditions made Tippecanoe especially difficult today, and only five players were able to better par. Dave Carich of Harbour Trees posted a 3-under-par, 69 to grab a one shot lead and a look at his first Senior Open victory.
“My goal today was to play the most difficult holes at even par,”said Carich, the 2014 Indiana PGA Senior Player of the Year. “In my opinion, 6, 7, 9 and 11 are the toughest, and I was able to play those at 1-over. I kept the ball in play and I made a few birdies so overall it was a good day.”
Quinn Griffing, Donald Ross GC and Tim Holt, Nick’s Golf Center posted 2-under-par, 70s and trail by one heading to tomorrow’s final round.
“I hit my approach shots really close today,” said Griffing, the 2011 Senior Open Champion. “I’ve played a lot of golf out here so I know the course well, and it was one of those days where everything clicked.”
Tony Pancake, Crooked Stick and Indianapolis' Bob Stephens are currently tied for fourth at 1-under-par.
Tee times will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
