In an effort to make the Boys State Junior Championship more accessible and to better accommodate shortened seasons and busy schedules, the Indiana Golf Foundation has announced the expansion of Boys State Junior exemptions and qualifications.
In addition to exemption criteria used in the past, the IGF has added exemptions for the following players:
- Past Masters Tour Event Winners (previous and current year)
- US Junior Am Qualifiers (previous and current year)
- Special Exemption List
As usual, the IGF will be conducting five qualifiers across the state for non-exempt players, but with one additional avenue to qualification. Because this year’s qualifier dates conflict with the AJGA Under Armour/Jeff Overton Championship hosted by Otter Creek, the IGF will be using the AJGA event as an additional qualifying method. Any player that makes the cut in the AJGA Championship, will earn a spot in the Boys State Junior Championship. “The last thing we want is for our players to have to choose between qualifying for our State Championship and a national event in their home state” said Ryan Lambert, Director of Junior Tournament Operations for the IGF. “We feel like this is a simple and fair solution to the conflict and in the best interest of our players.” For players that don’t qualify through the AJGA event, Lambert says there is still an opportunity for them as well. “Those that miss the cut at the AJGA event can still participate in one of the two qualifiers we have on Thursday, July 3. It’s a quick turnaround, but they will still have that chance to qualify.” Lambert suggests that players go ahead and register for one of the July 3rd qualifiers with the knowledge that the IGF will transfer their qualifier fee to the State Championship if they do make the cut.
